The De Pree Art Center and Gallery at Hope College is presenting the annual Juried Student Art Show from Thursday, Nov. 14, through Thursday, Dec. 5.

The exhibition’s juror, Michele Bosak, who is exhibitions director at Kendall College of Art and Design, will deliver a juror’s talk on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in Cook Auditorium of the De Pree Art Center, with an opening reception following in the gallery from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The public is invited to the exhibition, juror’s talk and opening reception. Admission is free.

The annual fall-semester exhibition is open to all students at Hope College. Each year students have the opportunity to have their work reviewed by a professional artist and/or curator whereby selected artworks are exhibited in the annual show.

Bosak is a Midwest-based curator and designer with more than 15 years of experience in contemporary art and design. As exhibitions director at Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD), she specializes in producing dynamic, inclusive exhibitions, often focusing on marginalized genders, queer culture, and the intersections of art, design and technology.

Bosak curates through a lens of collective authorship and has developed, managed and mounted more than 50 exhibitions, guest-curated, contributed to catalogs and juried numerous shows. As a longtime advocate for artists, she recently began arts consulting through Fieldwork Collab, providing guidance and support throughout the creative process.

Her passion project is the Standard Project Space ©2020, a garage gallery that operates on a pop-up basis. The space showcases work by folks who fall under the large umbrella of being queer, BIPOC, and/or experiencing marginalization due to their genders, and connects their skills and services to the broader community.

Following the opening, the De Pree Gallery will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will be closed on Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 27-29, because of the college’s Thanksgiving Break.  Those without a Hope College ID, which is necessary to gain access through the front door, should call the Department of Art and Art History at 616-395-7500 to gain entry.
