The De Pree Art Center and Gallery at Hope College will feature “Not to Get Political…,” presenting work by graduating studio-art and art-history majors, in the college’s annual Senior Art Exhibition from Friday, April 11, through Friday, May 2.
There will be artist talks on Friday, April 11, from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the De Pree Art Center in Cook Auditorium and room 129, with an opening reception following in the gallery.
The public is invited to the artist talks, reception and exhibition. Admission is free.
The students with work in the exhibition are Kyra Carlson, Cecilia Doerr, Sophia Funston, Emeline Garvey, Lily Leman, Renee Marting, Abigail Nelson, Ayanna Njoroge and Mimi Tiews.
The exhibition features a wide array of media, including photography, painting, and weaving, as well as sculptures made of fur, metal, silicone and resin. The capstone essays for the department’s graduating art history senior will also be on display. As described in its overview, “the exhibition highlights challenging topics facing artists practicing their craft among the contested cultural terrain of the 21st century in which everything has become political.”
The gallery is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery will be closed on Good Friday, April 18.
