Bill McKibben – an environmentalist, author and educator – will be the keynote speaker for Hope College’s annual Campus Sustainability Month program, on Thurs., Oct. 22 . He’ll address Hope College students at 4 p.m. in the A. Paul Schaap Science Center and the community is invited to attend at no charge, for McKibben’s public address at 7 p.m. at Graves Hall on campus. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Co-sponsoring this event are the Hope Sustainability Committee and the Holland Area Chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby.

Bill McKibbenMcKibben is the founder of Third Act, which organizes people over the age of 60 for action on climate and justice. He’s been writing books for 35 years, addressing global warming, communities, genetic engineering and family. His book The End of Nature (1989) is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change. He’s since written 20 books and his work appears regularly in periodicals from the New Yorker to Rolling Stone. He serves as the Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College, as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and he has won the Gandhi Peace Prize. His work covers global warming, communities, genetic engineering and family.
