The new book “Invoking the Fathers: Dangerous Metaphors and Founding Myths in Congressional Politics” by Dr. Sarah Kornfield of the Hope College communication faculty, published this month by Johns Hopkins University Press, examines the impact of the phrase “Founding Fathers” as code for a particular political outlook.

Arts Holland Area Arts Council Featuring Hope Student-Faculty Exhibition
The Holland Area Arts Council will feature the collaborative student-faculty exhibition “Standing Upright and Hanging by a Thread” by Hope College senior studio art major Sophia Funston and Lisa Walcott, who is an associate professor of art at the college, from Friday, Oct. 11, through Friday, Nov. 1.

Academics Robert Swierenga to Receive State History Award for Biography of A.C. Van Raalte
Dr. Robert P. Swierenga, who is the A.C. Van Raalte Research Professor at the Van Raalte Institute of Hope College, is receiving a 2024 State History Award from the Historical Society of Michigan for his biography of the influential leader for whom both his professional title and the institute are named.
