De Pree Gallery Vision Statement

The mission of the De Pree Gallery is to facilitate a deeper connection for students between art and the world around them. Works prompt contemplation and exploration, investigate challenging topics, reexamine social and cultural conventions, posit difficult and provocative questions, even provoke tension and discomfort. In a global society, contemporary art has become a forum for exchange, promoting connections across nations, political ideologies, cultural heritages, social identities, religions and backgrounds.

The purpose is to uphold Hope College’s commitment to its students, and to encourage them to engage with diverse viewpoints, ultimately preparing them to be global citizens. Public discussion and debate are welcomed. Discussion is integral to the experience of contemporary art and the intellectual development of all students.
