Hope College ranked eighth among 209 Division III
football teams in home game attendance this past season,
according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
The Flying Dutchmen were co-champions with Adrian of the
Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and finished with a
6-3 record.
The team established an attendance record for a five-game
home schedule at Holland Municipal Stadium, averaging 4,148 fans
per game. The Flying Dutchmen have been playing their home games
at Holland Municipal Stadium since 1979.
The final average was bolstered by a record single-game
crowd of 6,421 fans for the Hope's first-ever night game at the
stadium. Played in conjunction with the sesquicentennial
celebration of the city of Holland, the annual Community Day game
resulted in a 27-0 victory over Illinois Benedictine.
A season-ending game in which Hope defeated Albion 28-25 to
gain a share of the MIAA championship attracted a record Parents
Day crowd of 4,389 fans.
Emory & Henry College of Virginia led all Division III teams
with an average home attendance of 5,853 fans. MIAA co-champion
Adrian ranked 20th on the list with an average of 3,085 fans per
home game.
