High school students from throughout West Michigan will participate in the 28th annual Albert E. Lampen Contest and Competition in mathematics, to be held at Hope College on Saturday, Nov. 18.
More than 100 high school juniors and seniors from
several West Michigan high schools are anticipated for the
contest. The top three students from each school will
receive prizes, and the schools with the best team score in
class A, B, C and D, and the top 10 scorers in the
individual competition, will receive framed certificates.
The contest will feature a 30-question multiple
choice test scheduled to run for 90 minutes. While the
students are participating in the mathematics competition,
their teachers will attend a conference. Activities will
also include an awards ceremony and a luncheon.
The competition is named for Dr. Albert E. Lampen,
who was chair of the college's department of mathematics for
39 years, retiring in 1957.
