The Hope College Wind Symphony will present a concert featuring guest conductor Sarah McKoin from the Conservatory of Music at University of Missouri, Kansas City on Friday, March 1, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
An internationally recognized conductor, McKoin serves as associate professor of music and director of bands at UMKC, where she conducts the Conservatory Wind Ensemble. McKoin is dedicated to performing the literature of today's best composers and has participated in world and regional premiers of works by Chen Yi, James Mobberley, Lucas Foss and others. She will conduct the Wind Symphony in two classic works by Perry Grainger, "Irish Tune from County Derry," and "Shepherd's Hey," as well as Antonin Dvorak's "Serenade."
Other pieces on the program include a scene from Ralph Vaughn Williams' ballet, "Job." The scene "Satan's Dance of Triumph" was arranged for winds by Steven Ward, conductor of the Wind Symphony. The concert will conclude with Karel Husa's "Music for Prague, 1968."
