Hope College has enrolled a record number of students this year, topping 3,000 students for the second time in the college's history.

Hope College has enrolled a record number of students this year, topping 3,000 students for the second time in the college's history.

Hope has enrolled 3,035 students this fall, up from 2,999 last year and the previous high of 3,015 in the fall of 2000. The college has set enrollment records in four of the last five years.

The student body is comprised of 1,187 men and 1,848 women from 44 states and territories and 37 foreign countries.

Students transferring to Hope from other colleges and universities total 59, compared with 57 in 2001. There are 105 students in off-campus programs, compared to 98 last year.

The enrollment by class, with last year's class in parentheses, is: freshmen, 758 (801); sophomores, 759 (718); juniors, 659 (687); seniors, 757 (692); and special students, 102 (101).

The largest representation is from Michigan with 2,302 students, followed by Illinois, 259; Indiana, 98; New York and Ohio, 56 each; Wisconsin, 36; Iowa, 25; Minnesota, 24; New Jersey, 20; Missouri, 14; California and Colorado, 13 each; and Pennsylvania with 11.

Foreign countries represented in the student body include: Albania, Bolivia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Kosovo, Liberia, Mexico, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Hope College was chartered in 1866 and is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America (RCA). The college offers courses in 56 majors leading to a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
