e traditional Meet the Dutchmen scrimmage featuring the Hope College football team will be held Saturday, Aug. 31.

The scrimmage will be held at the college's Ekdal J. Buys athletic fields which is north of Holland Municipal Stadium. The scrimmage will begin at 10 a.m. Admission is free.

With a pre-season roster of 142 players, coach Dean Kreps and his staff have been busy preparing the Flying Dutchmen for the school's 93rd year of gridiron action.

The Flying Dutchmen open their season Saturday, Sept. 7 with the 37th annual Hope/Holland Community Day game against the College of Wooster, Ohio.

The Flying Dutchmen are coming off a 7-2 season and have been 15-4 the last two seasons. Hope has been pegged the team to beat in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) according to a pre-season poll of coaches and the media.

This season for the first time the Flying Dutchmen will play a ten-game regular season schedule. The conference portion of the schedule has been increased to six games with the addition of Wisconsin Lutheran College as a member of the MIAA. The non-league portion of the schedule includes two first-time opponents, Wooster and the University of Wisconson-Platteville.
