Hope College ceramics students are organizing a lunchtime fund-raiser with Habitat for Humanity in mind.
On Friday, March 7, the students will be selling both soup and the bowls in which the meal will be served. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ceramics section in the De Pree Art Center, located on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street.
The public is invited.
Half of the funds raised will be contributed to Habitat for Humanity. The other half will support the college's Ceramics Guild, helping to underwrite the purchase of supplies, and to fund travel to conferences and other activities.
Some 300 bowls are being produced for the fund- raiser by the college's dozen "Advanced Ceramics" students as well as by instructor Daryn Lowman and other artists. Lowman noted that the bowls will include gas-fired stoneware, salt-fired stoneware and wood-fired stoneware, and will be safe to eat from as well as dishwasher and microwave safe. The price of the bowls will vary, ranging from $5 to $50.
For an additional $5, those attending may fill the bowl they purchase with a meal. Options will include a Vegan squash ginger soup, a vegetarian mushroom barley soup, and chili.
