The gallery of the De Pree Art Center at Hope College will host a reception on Friday, Sept. 12, as part of its participation in the multi-institution exhibition "Shared Impressions: Contemporary Dutch Prints," featuring works from Grand Valley State University's permanent collection.

The public is invited to both the exhibition and the reception, which will run from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission to the gallery at Hope is free.In addition to Hope, "Shared Impressions: Contemporary Dutch Prints" is being featured at the Holland Museum, the Holland Area Arts Council, Freedom Village, and the GVSU Meijer Campus. The shared exhibit, which opened on Friday, Sept. 5, presents a sampling of some 130 prints from a collection of 500 prints by contemporary Dutch artists donated to Grand Valley in 2001 through a gift from Holland residents James and Donna Brooks.
The collection was assembled by Amsterdam sculptor and graphic artist Cyril Lixenberg, who over the decades acquired works by contemporaries he admired, many times exchanging his own artwork for that of his colleagues. The result is a showcase of the many styles, movements, and controversies that characterize Dutch works on paper over the last half-century. Artists include such high-profile names as Barbara Hepworth, Victor Vasarely, Karel Appel, and many others.
A total of three receptions will take place on Friday, Sept. 12. The 5-6:30 p.m. reception at Hope is titled "Meet the Collector, Cyril Lixenberg." Visitors can meet the Dutch artist and collector who assembled the works on exhibit.
Also from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Holland Museum will feature "Family Printmaking ... Just for Fun," with activities for the whole family.
From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the Holland Area Arts Council will host a reception. The event will feature remarks by Grand Valley President Mark A. Murray at 7 p.m.The exhibition continues through Friday, Sept. 19.
The De Pree Art Center is located on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street. The gallery's regular hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The gallery is handicapped accessible. Additional information may be obtained by calling (616) 395-7500.
