Junior Ryan Shedd of Coldwater, Mich. (Coldwater HS) set a new standard of excellence for Hope golf Monday as he shot a record 18-hole round of 67 as the The Flying Dutchmen expanded their lead in the MIAA standings.

The Flying Dutchmen won the season's fifth conference tournament to move ahead of the field by 32 strokes with two rounds remaining.

Shedd's round of 32-35-67 over the par 72 Clearbrook Golf Club course was accomplished with six birdies and only one bogey.

It ties a nearly two decade old MIAA record of 67 by Tim Smith of Olivet and later Steve John of Albion during the 1984 season.

It is also the best score by a Hope golfer in an MIAA tournament, erasing the previous mark of 68 by Magnus Lunblad (1989) and Mark Piersma (1998).

Shedd's performance came on the heels of a 69 stroke effort in the previous league tournament and puts him in first place of the seasonal player standings at 73.6 strokes per round.
