Post-season awards have been announced in Hope football. The Flying Dutchmen were champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), posting a 7-4 season record and qualifying for the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Seniors Phil Butler of Howard City, Mich. (Tri-County HS) and Scott Jeschke of Gobles, Mich. (Gobles HS) were named the recipients of the coaches' Allen Kinney Award.
The Kinney award has been presented annually since 1971 by the football coaching staff to a senior player for maximum contribution to the football program. This award is named in memory of Allen Kinney, a member of the Hope football team who died of cancer in his senior year in 1967.
Butler and senior Chad Beaver of Gladwin, Mich. (Gladwin HS) were chosen the team's most valuable offensive and defensive player respectively. Butler and Beaver were co-captains of the team and each was voted to the All-MIAA first team, Butler at quarterback and Beaver at defensive end.
