The Hope College Symphonette's first concert of the season has been postponed to Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The concert was originally to have been presented on Friday, Oct. 1, but is being rescheduled because of a death in the family of conductor Richard Piippo.
The concert will highlight composers Joaquin Rodrigo, Darius Milhaud and Franz Schubert. The first work on the program will be the "Tres Viejos Aires de Danze" by Rodrigo.
The evening's second work will feature student saxophonist Derek Brown who will be performing "Scaramouche" by Milhaud. Recognized as a technically brilliant work, it opens with a fast movement, moves into a melancholy section, and closes with a rousing samba dance movement titled "Brazileira."
To close the program, the Symphonette will be performing the "Symphony No. 5 in B flat" by Schubert. The piece is written in the standard symphonic format of Allegro, Andante con moto, Menuetto-Allegro molto, and Allegro vivace. This symphony is a melodic, Schubertian classic.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
