Auditions are open to children currently in kindergarten through children who look no older than 14.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 25, beginning at 10 a.m. in the DeWitt Center main theatre. Parents are asked to sign their children up for auditions by calling the college's department of theatre at (616) 395-7600 weekdays between 10 a.m. and noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Audition times will be assigned by the children's age, and parents of younger children are asked to remain for the audition.
Children should prepare a short poem and short song for the audition. An accompanist will be provided if needed. HSRT tries to make the audition process enjoyable for children, so those auditioning may keep the material simple. For example, simply singing "Happy Birthday" can suffice for the song.
Rehearsals begin on Monday, May 22. The show opens on Friday, June 16, and has tentative dates of June 17, 20, 21, 22, 27, 29, July 5, 8, 11, 14, 18, 20, 25, 31, and August 3 with performances at 8 p.m. In addition, there will be a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Thursday, July 20.
Roles include the title role of Oliver and a number of supporting roles.
