The 29th annual Holland golf outing at Hope College, the "Bob DeYoung Hope Classic," will be held on Monday, June 26, at the Holland Country Club.
The long-running event was renamed in 2000 for Bob DeYoung, who retired in June of that year as vice president for college advancement after working at Hope since 1965 in admissions, student development and advancement. DeYoung had been instrumental in establishing the outing.
The golf outing's format is 18-hole scramble with foursome play. Sponsored by the Hope Alumni Association, the event is open to all friends of the college.
Players may sign up as singles, in pairs or as part of a foursome. Singles and pairs will be combined into foursomes by the college's Office of Alumni and Parent Relations.
To accommodate players, there will be two shotgun starts, at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. All foursomes will be placed in one of three divisions based on the team members' average 18-hole scores.
In addition to golfing, participants may register for an 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. cookout lunch and a 6:30 p.m. pig roast.
Corporate sponsors include NatCity Investments, Elzinga & Volkers, Lakewood Inc., Hilliard Lyons, Smith & Associates, Creative Dining Services, Macatawa Bank, S.A. Morman and Co., and Pepsi.
This year, the net proceeds from the sponsorships will be applied to the Bob and Marcia DeYoung Scholarship fund at Hope. Recent scholarship recipient junior Kendall Ramsden of Grand Haven will offer some remarks at the evening banquet.
The entry fee for golfing only is $51, for the cookout lunch is $13 and for the dinner is $23.
Reservations must be made by Monday, June 19. Those interested in additional information or making reservations should call the college's Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at (616) 395-7250.
