Hope Summer Repertory Theatre (HSRT) continues its 35th season with a new cabaret in a new location. "The Shakespeare Revue" will open at Till Midnight Restaurant at 8:30 p.m. on July 19.
"The Shakespeare Revue" is best described as Monty Python meets the Bard. In fact, skits and songs from the likes of the Monty Python troupe, Noel Coward, Cole Porter, Tom Lehrer, and Stephen Sondheim create this hilarious look at Shakespeare's work.
No quizzes involved, so you do not need to be a Shakespeare expert to enjoy the work of over 40 contributors, including some of the top British comedy writers. Victoria Wood, Maureen Lipman, Fry and Laurie, and Olivier Award winners Stiles and Drewe all take their shot at the beloved playwright and his work.
HSRT is pulling out all the stops for this show, which includes three Equity Guests Artists. Plus, HSRT favorite James Saba takes on the directing role for this adventurous show.
Equity Artists Mark Goetzinger, Susan Ericksen, and Quincy Marr are joined by Christina Hall and Tyler Adcock. Jeff Brown is the musical director while Meribeth Kisner handles the choreography.
In addition to the July 19 opening, "Shakespeare in Revue" shows at 8:30 p.m. on July 20, 24, 29, August 2, 4, 8, and 10.
Till Midnight Restaurant is located in the Baker Lofts building at 171 East 24th Street.
While at the ticket office, be sure to reserve tickets for the other great HSRT shows, including the musicals "Oliver!" and "Dames at Sea," the comedy "Shakespeare in Hollywood," and Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." "Memory House" is playing at Snow Auditorium, HSRT's space for contemporary, cutting-edge theatre. The Children's Performance Troupe is presenting "Miss Nelson is Missing" and "The Rude Mechanicals."
The ticket office is located in the DeWitt Center, on the HopeCollege campus, at the corner of 12th Street and Columbia Avenue in Holland. Prices range from $8-$26 for musicals, and $8-$18 for plays. Season coupons, ranging from $48-$85 are also available. Ticket office hours are 10 a.m-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and one hour before all showtimes.
