Hope College senior swimmer Lisa Smith of Dearborn, Mich. (Dearborn HS) has been named a national swimmer-of-the-week by CollegeSwimming.com.

She is one of six swimmers selected on the basis of their performances in recent meets by a panel of collegiate coaches.

Last Saturday (Jan. 6) in a dual meet against Division I Oakland University, Smith swept the butterfly events, the 100 in :58.45 and the 200 in 2:11.06.  She was also runner-up in the 100 freestyle (:54.20).

Smith has been an NCAA All-American six times in her career.  Last year she was the bronze medalist in the 100 and 200 butterfly events at the NCAA Division III championships.  She is the defending MIAA conference champion in the 50 free, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly.  She is the MIAA record holder in both butterfly events.

This season she is already an automatic qualifier to nationals in the 100 butterfly (:56.34) and a conditional qualifier in the 200 butterfly and 50 free.
