Hope College will host the Honors Band, a group of 65 high school musicians from 20 different high schools, on Saturday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The Honors Band is a group comprised of high school students who were nominated by their band director or private teacher.

The concert will open with the Hope Wind Symphony performing, followed by the Honors Band. The program will include "Festive Overture" by Dmitri Shostakovich; "October" by Eric Whitacre; "Trauermusik" by Richard Wagner; and "Rolling Thunder" by Henry Fillmore. The concert will conclude with both ensembles playing "Puszta" by Jan Van der Roost.

The Wind Symphony is led by Gabe Southard, assistant professor of music at HopeCollege. Southard is also working with the high students along with guest conductor Charles Taylor, who is director of instrumental ensembles and coordinator of instrumental and vocal music education at the University of New Orleans. Taylor also taught middle school and high school music for 14 years.
