The Hope College Concert Series will host Ag Silver on Tuesday, April 1, at 8 p.m. at the Park Theatre.

Tickets are $5 for the general public and free with a Hope College ID, and are available at the ticket office in the main lobby of the DeVos Fieldhouse.

West Michigan-based Ag Silver consists of Jon Ornee, lead singer, piano and guitar; Chris McKellar, guitars; Craig Vanderwier, drums; and Aaron Cowan, bass.

After winning Michigan's largest Battle of the Bands competition in December 2003, Ag Silver spent most of the next two years working on its music. "We really felt like we were just beginning to scrape the tip of the iceberg with our songwriting," Ornee said. "Even though we were beginning to gain some regional attention from our live show, we decided to step back, trash most of our music and re-dream the whole thing."

The result was 2006's 13-track "Wake Up and Smell Reality." Most of the songs deal with common human themes of doubt, love and hope. "We really strive to make music that, in its nature, regardless of the lyrics, moves the listener," Ornee said.

Sampler CDs featuring four tracks from "Wake Up and Smell Reality" are available for free at the Student Union Desk in the college's DeWitt Center, as well as at Lemonjello's and The Full Circle.

The April 1 concert will be recorded for a DVD that Ag Silver is making to promote the group's "Clean Water for Africa Tour." The effort is being conducted in conjunction with "Blood: Water Mission," a non-profit organization founded by Jars of Clay to promote clean blood and clean water initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.

The college's ticket office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and can be called at (616) 395-7890. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

The DeWitt Center is located at 141 E. 12th St., facing Columbia Avenue at 12th Street. The DeVos Fieldhouse is located at 222 Fairbanks Ave., between Ninth and 11th streets. The Park Theatre is located on River Avenue between 10th and 11th streets.
