The Hope College Faculty Recital will showcase Erich Peterson, French horn, on Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The recital will open with "Ronda in B Flat," by Arnold Cooke. Following that piece will be "Romanza" and "Sonatina," by Jan Koetsier; "Sonata," by Franz Danzi; "En Foret," by Eugene Bozzal; "Nocturne," by Franz Strauss; and, in conclusion, "Aesop's Fables" by Anthony Plog.
Peterson will be assisted by Jennifer Wolfe on piano and Daniel Mattson, who will narrate the "Aesop's Fables."
Peterson received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in horn performance from NorthwesternUniversity, where he studied with Dale Clevenger, Norman Schweikert and Gail Williams. Currently, Peterson is the assistant principal/second horn with the Grand Rapids Symphony, having joined the orchestra in March 2004. In addition to his playing duties, Peterson began as personnel manager of the Grand Rapids Symphony in July 2007.
Prior to coming to Grand Rapids, he was a member of the national tour of "Les Miserables," with which he performed more than 1,500 shows in over 40 states and Canada over a period of six years. While living in Chicago, he was an active free-lance musician performing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Ravinia Festival Orchestra and Chicago Opera Theater. Peterson was also active as a studio musician, having recorded hundreds of television/radio commercials and video game soundtracks. He maintains an active teaching schedule both at home and as an adjunct faculty member at Hope.
Nykerk Hall of Music is located in the central Hope campus on the former 12th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
