The Hope College choirs and Symphonette with guest artists will perform a combined concert on Tuesday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Together the College Chorus, Chapel Choir and Symphonette will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Requiem." Soloists include Hope College faculty member Linda Dykstra, soprano; Wheaton College faculty member Sarah Holman, mezzo soprano; Western Michigan University faculty member Ken Prewitt, tenor; and Grand Valley State University faculty member Dale Schriemer, bass.

Few musical works have created as much interest as this unfinished composition by Mozart, who died while working to complete the piece. The Mozart scholar Alfred Einstein said, "In the 'Requiem' small doubts arise... And yet, with the very first measures of the 'Introit' we know definitely Mozart's intention, his attitude towards death . . . Death is not a terrible vision but a friend."

The Symphonette, conducted by Gabe Southard, will also perform "September Canticle," by Joseph Schwantner. The piece, written for orchestra and organ to commemorate the Sept. 11 attack, will feature faculty member Huw Lewis, organ.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 277 College Ave., at the corner of 12th Street and College Avenue.
