The Hope College chapter of Relay for Life will sponsor its sixth annual 12-hour relay from 7 p.m. Friday (Oct. 24) until 7 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 25).

Weather permitting, the relay will be held outdoors in the Pine Grove at the center of Hope's campus.  The rain location is the Dow Center, also on Hope's campus.

The Relay for Life is part of a national fund raising initiative for the American Cancer Society. In 2007 an estimated 700 students, faculty and staff raised $52,426.

Participants will walk a course lined with luminaria bags purchased in honor of a loved one who has battled or is battling cancer.  Cancer survivors from the Holland and Hope communities have been invited to participate in the first lap.

The student co-chairs are Ryan Otterstrom, a freshman from Bethel, Conn., and Lydia Hurd, a junior from Chanhassen, Minn.
