Guest artist Dorrell Martin's "Dance Fusion" will perform at Hope College on Saturday, April 4, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

Dorrell Martin was a soloist for the national touring company of a "Few Good Men...Danci." and serves as a faculty member for the Joffrey Ballet School and Dance New Amsterdam. He has performed in musicals such as the "Lion King," "Aida," "Swing," and "West Side Story," and worked with recording artists Jennifer Lopez and Pink, and choreographers Kevin Wynn, Fred Benjamin, Liz Imperio, Randy Duncan and Pattie Obey.

Formerly artistic director of Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, Martin founded "Dance Fusion" in 2003. The company made its international debut in Veracruz, Mexico, and received honorable mention for choreography at the World Jazz Congress.

The program will include several works choreographed by Martin.

"Behind These Walls" reflects the journey of a woman's quiet strength through pain and suffering and honors women of the past that fought for their rights. "Behind These Walls" premiered in 2008 and has been reconstructed for the Hope College performance.

"Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" is a work in progress set to the music of Radiohead.  The colorful and boisterous piece is an image of today's quirky and outspoken youth embodying aquatic and sea-like qualities. "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" is also an exploration of the peculiar communication and interaction throughout society's outspoken youth.

"Last Man Standing" is a duet comprised of two male solos that explores the carefree and light hearted, yet very masculine side of the male gender.

"At The Edge of Dawn" is a work set to the poem written by David E. Harding about spiritual being.

Martin's company has been the "company in residence" for the department of dance at Hope for the current semester. The performance is the culmination of the residency.

Hope College senior Lindsey Ferguson of Fredonia, N.Y., who has been studying in New York City as part of the Great Lakes Colleges Association Arts program, will be joining Dance Fusion in the performance.
