The Hope College Great Performance Series will feature Chicago's Luna Negra Dance Theater on Thursday and Friday Sept. 24-25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

In 10 years, Luna Negra Dance Theater has established itself as a significant and vital component of Chicago's arts and cultural community. Since Eduardo Vilaro founded Luna Negra in 1999, the company has served as a springboard for Latino contemporary choreographers to give expression to their stories and bring new life to the cultures of their communities. Steering away from stereotypes and folkloric representations, Luna Negra brings to audiences modern Latino expressions with energy, power and passion, reflecting through dance the immense cultural shift that is shaping America in the 21st century.
The company has received enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics alike. Sid Smith of the "Chicago Tribune" said, "Artistic director Eduardo Vilaro and his beguiling dancers are an established, respected and treasured troupe on our arts landscape." The "Chicago Sun-Times" noted, "This is a company that moves with sensational energy and panache."
The company also tours extensively nationally and internationally.
While on campus, company members will be leading master classes with Hope College dance students.
The presentation is supported by the Performing Arts Funds, a program of Arts Midwest funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art, with additional contributions from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, General Mills Foundation and Land O'Lakes Foundation.
Tickets for the performance are on sale at the ticket office in the main lobby of the DeVos Fieldhouse, and cost $17 for regular admission, $12 for senior citizens, and $6 for children 18 and under. The ticket office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at (616) 395-7890.

The DeVos Fieldhouse is located at 222 Fairbanks Ave., between Ninth and 11th streets. The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 E. Eighth St.
