An outstanding year as a member of the Hope men's cross country program is being topped by the naming of junior Nathan Love of Midland (Midland HS) as a scholar athlete by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Love is one of just 142 male runners at all NCAA Division III institutions to receive the distinction. To qualify, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional championships.

Love finished eighth at the Great Lakes Regional to qualify for the NCAA national championships where he placed 61st among 279 runners. He earlier finished fourth at the championships of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). He was a co-captain of the team.

The Flying Dutchmen, coached by Mark Northuis, finished second at the MIAA championships  and were sixth at the regional.
