The Hope College men's soccer team will be heading to Sectional tournament play at
Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio The games will be played on Friday and
Saturday.
Hope (17-4-3) will play Luther Iowa (17-3-2) in one of the Sectional
games while Ohio Wesleyan (19-2-0) will meet Ohio Northern (20-2-2) in
the other. Game times have not been announced.
Coach Steve Smith's Flying Dutchmen posted a pair of 2-1 victories in
NCAA games this past weekend, first against Thomas More, Ky. and then
against Dominican, Ill.
Appearing in the NCAA championships for the 12th time in school
history, the Flying Dutchmen have been to the third round on two other
occasions (1994 and 2002), but have gone no further. Each time Hope
lost in a shootout after playing to scoreless ties, first with
UW-Oshkosh in 1994 and to Wheaton in 2002.
Hope has traveled to Ohio Wesleyan for NCAA tournament on four previous
occasions, 1982, 1994, 1995 and 2006.
