Hope College will feature the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

Under the artistic direction of Laurie Eisenhower, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble (EDE) is considered by many critics to be one of the finest contemporary dance companies in the nation. EDE has received overwhelming critical acclaim along with enthusiastic audience support: “a hearty, no-nonsense way of moving” (“The New York Times”) “intelligently crafted repertoire” (“Dance Magazine”), “dance that touches the soul” (Detroit Free Press), and “a finely interwoven company” (“Beverly Hills Outlook”).

The performances will be the culmination of Eisenhower Dance Ensemble’s residency with the college’s department of dance. The company will be working with Hope dance students throughout the week.

The company’s concert schedule has taken it to theatres throughout the state of Michigan, on tours across the United States, and as far as St. Petersburg, Russia. The company has received numerous grants and awards for its work and, in 2003, Laurie Eisenhower received the prestigious ArtServe Michigan Governor’s Award for Arts and Culture – Michigan Artist. EDE has worked in collaboration with the Michigan Opera Theatre, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.

Tickets cost $10 for regular admission; $7 for senior citizens and Hope College faculty and staff; and $5 for Hope students and children age 12-18, with admission free for children under 12.
