The Tony award-winning musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, one of Broadway’s most sensational musical comedies, is opening July 13 at Hope Summer Repertory Theatre (HSRT). Come follow six determined spellers who embark on their own personal journeys to self acceptance as they compete in the championship of a lifetime. With music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a show that parents will love as much as their kids and will have the entire family humming songs and spelling long after they get home. Performances are July 13, 14, 17, 19, 23, 25, August 1, 4, 8, and 11 at 8:00 p.m. in the DeWitt Theatre.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is an energetic musical that the whole family will enjoy! This show shines a light on the pressures put on adolescents as they battle with others and themselves for the title of spelling bee champion. The six quirky, eccentric, opinionated, and lovable spellers strip themselves from their facade and reveal their deepest insecurities to the audience in a hysterical, yet compassionate manner. Watch as the spellers learn lessons about life and acceptance. Audience members need not worry about the content of this performance. This witty musical will have both children and parents falling out of their seats as they this fall in love with this R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S musical comedy.

The members of the 2012 HSRT Acting Company have trained at some of the leading theatre conservatories and universities in the nation, heavily concentrating in their respective crafts. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee cast includes: Michael Hanna (Woodlands, TX) as Chip, Hannah Richter (Denver, Colorado) as Logainne, Jesse Swatling-Holcomb (Oakland, CA) as Leaf, Christina Ramirez (St. Louis, MO) as Marcy, Steven Johnson (Rockford, IL) as Barfee, Lili Torre (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) as Olive, Emily Austin (Boulder, CO) as Rona, Durron Tyre (Richmond, VA) as Mitch, and Chip Duford (AEA) (Flushing, Michigan) as Panch .

The production team includes: Director James Saba, Music Director Fred Tessler, Scenic Designer Colt Frank, Lighting Designer Stephen Boulmetis, Sound Designer Amanda Werre, Costume Designer Jessica Leslie, Stage Manager B.J. HSRT’s ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The ticket office will be open on Saturday’s at noon. On performance dates, the DeWitt ticket office will be open through intermission.
