Hope will be well represented at the NCAA Division III cross country championship on Saturday, Nov. 17. The Flying Dutch will compete as a team in the women's final while senior Blake Rottschafer will run as an individual in the men's race.

Hope will be well represented at the NCAA Division III cross country championship on Saturday, Nov. 17. The Flying Dutch will compete as a team in the women's final while senior Blake Rottschafer will run as an individual in the men's race.

The Flying Dutch are headed to nationals as the NCAA Great Lakes Regional champions. Coach Mark Northuis' Dutch won the Regional title for the first time in a quarter of a century by besting a 33-team field in Anderson, Ind. It will be Hope's third consecutive appearance at the women's nationals and the 10th time in school history. In 24 seasons under coach Northuis, Hope has qualified teams or runners to the NCAA championship a combined 25 times between the men's and women's programs.

Members of the Flying Dutch team advancing to the women's are, junior Camille Borst of Allendale (Allendale HS), junior Meredith Busman of Coopersville (HS), junior Katie Carlson of Rockford (Rockford HS), senior Sharon Hecker of Grandville (Grandville HS), fr4eshman Michelle Kerr of Dearborn (Divine Child HS), senior Taylor Mattarella of Traverse City (Traverse City Central HS), senior Morgan McCardel of Traverse City (St. Francis HS), junior Sheri McCormack of Holland (West Ottawa HS), and freshman Julia Stock of Spring Lake (Grand Haven HS), and sophomore Emily Wrozek of Clarklake (Hanover-Horton HS).

Rottschafer, a team co-captain from Spring Lake (Spring Lake HS) will be competing at nationals for the first time. He placed 15th among 256 runners at the Great Lakes Regional to earn an at-large berth in the championship field.

The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will host the national championship at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's 8K race will begin at 11 a.m. ET followed by the women's 6K race at noon.
