A successful volleyball season is being rewarded with the recognition of three Hope players by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Sophomore outside hitter Jenna Grasmeyer of Hudsonville (Unity Christian HS) has been named a first-team All-American while senior setter Greer Bratschie of Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS) is a third-team All-America honoree. In addition, junior middle hitter Mari Schoolmaster of Portage (Portage Central HS) is an honorable mention All-America.

This marks the first time in school history that two players have been named AVCA All-Americans in the same season. Three players were previously honored -- Becky Schmidt (1998), Andrea Helminiak (2009) and Jacie Fiedler (2010).

Coach Becky Schmidt's Flying Dutch posted a 29-5 season record and advanced to the semi-finals of the Regional tournament in the NCAA championships. Hope's three players were all first-team All-MIAA honorees. Bratschie and Schoolmaster were co-captains of the team. Bratschie was a thee-time All-Region honoree. Hope during her career posted a 115-21 record.

The AVCA All-Americans will be honored Wednesday at the opening banquet of the NCAA Division III championship being hosted by Hope College.
