12th Street Harmony at 2013 Musical Showcase concert

The 12th Street Harmony student vocal group at Hope College won “Best Male Group” in the fourth annual A Cappell-Off Collegiate A Cappella Competition organized by Grand Valley State University and held at Allendale High School on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The vocal ensemble competed with two other groups for the award.  The event also featured competition for “Best Female Group,” “Best Mixed Group” and “Best Overall.” Female, male and mixed groups from Central Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Hope, Michigan State University and Western Michigan University participated.

Founded in 2000, 12th Street Harmony presents 10-15 performances each year, including at churches, local high schools and special events at the college, in addition to semester-end concerts and a combined concert with the college’s Luminescence female vocal group and Women’s Chamber Choir.  The all-male vocal ensemble has 10 members, whose majors include not only music but also biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, engineering, nursing, psychology, religion and theatre.
