Hope swimmer Chloe Palajac by Lynne Powe

The Hope College women’s swimming & diving team opened the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships with a season-best performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay Wednesday at Holland Community Aquatic Center. 

Sophomore Molly Meyer of South Bend, Indiana (John Adams HS), freshman Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn HS), senior Luisa Burgess of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Taylor Allderice HS), and junior Lindsay Wiederhold of Plainwell, Michigan (Plainwell HS), posted a time of 7 minutes, 41.21 seconds to finish second.

The relay surpassed Hope’s previous season best of 7:56.68 from the Wheaton Invitational in December.

Calvin won the relay by 1.15 seconds over Hope to take a 40-34 lead after one event. Kalamazoo (32) is third and followed by Albion (30), Alma (28) and Olivet (26).

The four-day MIAA Championships resume on Thursday, February 12, at 10 a.m. with preliminaries. The finals begin at 5:30 p.m.
