Hope College’s Francesca Buchanan has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played February 5-12.
The junior forward from Grant, Michigan (Sparta HS) is honored after last week hitting
a game-winning, buzzer-beating shot at Calvin College and averaging 13.5 points, 8.0
rebounds and 2.0 assists during two wins.
This is the third time this season and the fourth time in her career Buchanan has received the MIAA award.
On Saturday, Buchanan recorded team-leading totals with 12 points and eight rebounds during a 69-40 victory against Saint Mary’s at DeVos Fieldhouse.
On Wednesday, Buchanan topped the sixth-ranked Flying Dutch with 15 points and eight rebounds during a 70-69 win at Calvin. She also collected four assists.
Buchanan caught an inbounds pass from sophomore Arika Tolbert of Lathrup Village, Michigan (Detroit Country Day) and made the game-winning layup before time expired.
