Hope College’s Marshall VanBelkum and Rocco Mularoni swept Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for games from April 9-15.

The two helped the Flying Dutchmen win two games on the road to remain undefeated in MIAA matches and extend their win streak to a school-record 11 games.

VanBelkum, who earned the defensive honor, collected 21 groundballs and won 81.9 percent of faceoffs during Hope’s 20-5 win at Olivet on Tuesday and its 13-0 win at Calvin on Saturday.

The sophomore from Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS) went 14-of-18 on faceoffs and grabbed 12 groundballs against Olivet. Against Calvin, he was 13-of-13 on faceoffs and had nine groundballs.

The Flying Dutchmen posted their second shutout of the season and now have allowed five or fewer goals six times this season. Hope ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in scoring defense.

This is the first time VanBelkum has been honored by the MIAA.

Mularoni, the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, collected nine goals, four assists and 10 groundballs last week.

The sophomore from Hartland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central) scored six times and recorded two assists at Olivet. He had three goals and two assists at Calvin.

Nineteen of Mularoni’s 21 shots were on goal.
