Hope College’s Nick Schanhals and Rocco Mularoni have been selected Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played March 5-11.
Schanhals, a goalie, claimed the defensive honor, while Mularoni, an attacker, earned
the offensive award.
Schanhals averaged 11.5 saves during two non-league victories for the Flying Dutchmen
last week.
The junior from North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon) recorded a season-high 13
saves during a 15-6 home victory against Benedictine, Illinois on Saturday and 10
during a 9-7 victory against John Carroll, Ohio on Thursday.
Mularoni, Hope’s leading scorer, averaged 6.5 goals last week.
The sophomore from Hartland, Michigan (Detroit Central Central) tied a Hope stadium
record with seven goals against Benedictine. He was just one goal from equaling the
school record for most goals in any match.
Mularoni also scored six times against John Carroll, including the final goal of the
match. He also assisted on the go-ahead goal.
It is the second consecutive week the Flying Dutchmen have swept the awards. Attacker
Max Kuiper of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central) and long-stick midfielder
Gareth Ulmer of Delaware, Ohio (Rutherford B. Hayes) claimed the MIAA’s offensive
and defensive weekly honors on March 5.
