The Hope College softball team placed second in the 2018 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Flying Dutch received two first-place votes and totaled 57 points for second place.

Hope is coming off a 27-15 season in 2017 in which the Flying Dutch earned a share of the MIAA regular-season championship and advanced to the regional finals of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Flying Dutch are led by Mary VandeHoef, who’s in her eighth season as head coach.

Senior Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (East HS) was named to the 2018 Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Player of the Year watch list. She was one of 50 players chosen.

Hope opens the season on March 10 with a non-league doubleheader at Hanover, Indiana.
