The Hope College softball team has been chosen to host one of eight NCAA Division III Super Regionals this weekend.
The 17th-ranked Flying Dutch will play Case Western Reserve (Ohio) University for
a best-of-three series to determine who advances to May 24-29 NCAA Championships at
the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Games will be played at Wolters Stadium on Friday at 4 p.m, Saturday at 1 p.m., and
Saturday at 3:30 p.m (if necessary).
Tickets will cost $10 for adults and $5 for youth. They will be available for purchase
at Wolters Stadium beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. There will be no
advance sales.
This is Hope’s first Super Regional appearance. The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic
Association Tournament champions enter with a 33-10 overall record after winning the
four-team Holland, Michigan Regional on Monday.
Under the direction of head coach Mary VandeHoef, the Flying Dutch are seeking their
third trip to nationals. They previously went in 1995 and 1991 — finishing a program-best
third in the nation in 1991. Hope placed third in the MIAA standings during the regular
season.
This is Case Western Reserve’s first Super Regional appearance. The Spartans (35-9
overall) won the Notre Dame, Indiana regional hosted by MIAA regular-season champion
Saint Mary’s College last weekend.
