The Hope College baseball team has earned the 2018-19 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award.

The Flying Dutchmen, coached by Stu Fritz, also recorded their first 30-win season last spring with a 31-11 record.

“I am just really proud of this group of young men for their work in the classroom, off the field and on the field,” head coach Stu Fritz said. “We had great leadership this year and a group of guys that just really enjoyed being together."

Hope is among 208 ABCA-member NCAA programs to receive the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.

Coaches were able to nominate their teams for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award following the conclusion of their spring semesters prior to the nomination deadline of July 19. To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a high school or college team.
  • Head coach must be a current ABCA member.
  • Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2018-19 academic year

"We are proud to once again honor the academic achievements of so many of our member programs," said Craig Keilitz, ABCA Executive Director. "The off-the-field success of this year's award winners is a testament to the hard work of the student-athletes and the commitment of coaches and academic personnel to developing well-rounded individuals."
