Hope College’s Anna Mitchell has been chosen as the recipient of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Robin Hartman Writing Award for the 2018-19 school year.

The junior from Brecksville, Ohio is recognized for her profile story on a Flying Dutch track & field student-athlete titled “Mitchel Achien’g’s Long Jump From Nairobi to Hope College” that published in May.

The Robin Hartman Writing Award was created in 2007-08 to honor outstanding writing in a sports information capacity, either by a sports information director or an assistant.

The award regards the memory of the late Robin Hartman, who served as Sports Information Director at Albion College from 1987-2001.

Mitchell is Hope’s first recipient of the Hartman Writing Award.

The 2018-19 school year was Mitchell’s first as a student writer for Hope’s sports information office.

Mitchell is studying business at Hope and wants to pursue a career in sports marketing. She will be interning this fall at LW Branding in Chicago.

“We are very proud of Anna’s work and how she told Mitchel’s inspiring story,” sports information director Alan Babbitt said. “There is outstanding storytelling done in the MIAA every year, so we are grateful and humbled to have her writing recognized.”
