The pair claimed All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association First Team honors for the 2019 season from the league’s coaches after leading the Flying Dutchmen to a second-place finish in the regular-season standings and MIAA Tournament.

Vanderstoep played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for Hope. The senior from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), posted a 16-11 doubles record, including a 5-2 mark this spring against MIAA opponents.

In singles play, VanderStoep finished with a 12-11 overall record, including a 4-1 mark in MIAA play.

Roe lined up at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. The senior from Bakersfield, California (Frontier),  finished with a 12-11 doubles record, including seven wins in eight tries vs. MIAA foes this season.

In singles play, Roe went 11-9 in singles play, including 6-1 during MIAA matches.

“The fact they’ve been lineup for four years really showed this year,” head coach Bob Cawood said. “They’ve been through the ringer. They are able to roll with those wins and losses and do the best they can.”

Two Flying Dutchmen received second-team honors: Michael Kiley and Danny Kroeze.

Kiley played No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles for Hope. The senior from Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores) went 14-10 in singles play, including a 6-1 mark against MIAA competition this spring.

In doubles play, Kiley posted a 14-10 overall record, including a 5-1 mark vs. MIAA foes.

Kiley was named recipient of the MIAA’s Stowe Memorial Award awarded by MIAA coaches on basis of outstanding sportsmanship.

Kroeze played No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Flying Dutchmen. The junior from

Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) finished with a 14-12 singles record, including a 7-2 mark against MIAA opponents this spring.

In doubles play, Kroeze had a 16-11 overall record, including a 4-2 record during MIAA matches.
