Claire Hallock, Amanda Bandrowski and Sydney Jackson formed a formidable trio atop the lineup for the Hope College women’s tennis team.

The three did not lose a league match for the Flying Dutch in either singles or doubles play en route to repeat MIAA regular-season and tournament titles.

Hallock, Bandrowski and Jackson all received all-league honors from the MIAA coaches — with Ballock as Most Valuable Player, and Bandrowski and Jackson first-team selections.

In addition, senior Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) has been named Hope’s fourth recipient of the MIAA’s Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete Award.

This is the third consecutive season and 17th overall a Hope women’s tennis player has claimed MVP honors.

Hallock owns a 24-2 overall singles record, including a 17-2 mark at the No. 1 flight this spring. The junior from Lakeland, Florida (Harrison Center HS) won all eight singles matches against MIAA opponents.

Head coach Bob Cawood credited Hallock’s hard work for her continued success on the court this spring. Hallock already has 70 singles wins during her Hope career - tying her for seventh most all-time.

“Claire just put in a lot of time. It pays off,” Cawood said. “Her willingness to play in the summer and continue to work on her game in the fall was impactful. To see her continue to grow over three years has been something special.

“She’s amazing from the ground with her groundstrokes. What has been the next step is her willingness to come in to the net which has allowed her to close out points. She has been able to wipe players off the court because of her downhill play.”

Bandrowski went 10-0 at No. 2 singles against MIAA teams this spring. The junior from Traverse City, Michigan (T.C. St. Francis) has set a school record for singles wins in a season with a 28-1 overall record. She also played No. 1 doubles for the Flying Dutch.

“Amanda is 23-0 in the spring for Division III opponents. She is taking care of business,” Cawood said. “She’s doing an awesome job going from two singles to one back to two this spring to do what’s best for the team. To be successful at that position is an incredible thing.”

Bandrowski and Hallock are 8-0 as doubles partners in MIAA matches and 19-8 overall.

“They make a dynamic doubles team,” Cawood said. “It’s very important to come out in doubles and win right away. To have them at the No. 1 spot is a really nice anchor for us. As the season’s gone one, they’ve started to mesh more, and that’s making them stronger.”

Jackson played No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles for Hope with senior Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville).

Jackson went 8-0 during MIAA singles matches and 21-2 overall during the regular season. The freshman from Fort Wayne, Indiana (Carroll) posted an 8-0 doubles record and a 19-7 mark overall.

“She has been an awesome addition to the team,” Cawood said. “Playing two doubles and three singles for a nationally ranked program is a difficult thing to do. She’s come in and done unbelievable. She’s undefeated this spring against Division III competition. Her ability to do it with grace is something I’m really proud of.”
