Barbara Basnett ‘74 Inman, Hope College’s second softball coach, passed away on June 16 at the age of 68.

Inman coached the Flying Dutch to a 5-4 record in 1976, the team’s second varsity season. Three years later, the Flying Dutch competed in their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association season.

Inman went on to teach physical education for Zeeland Public Schools for 31 years. She also coached high school and middle school volleyball.

Inman was preceded in death by her husband, Max Inman, in 2010. She is survived by her daughter Lindsey (Adam) Sims and their children, Alexis Mulder, Emerson Sims; step-sons, Matt (Stephanie) Inman and their children, Isaac, Katelyn and Troy (Jill) Inman and their children, Kaley, Trevor, and Bryce; and her sister, Janet Basnett.

A celebration of Inman’s life will be held Wednesday, June 30, from 6-9 p.m., at the Holland Fish and Game Club, 10840 Chicago Drive, in Zeeland.
