For the second time in her career, Hope College’s Kenedy Schoonveld has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.

The senior guard averaged 16 points per game on 57.1 percent field-goal shooting (12-21) during victories against Alma College and Calvin University last week.

On Saturday, Schoonveld (Zeeland, Michigan/Holland Christian HS) scored a game-high 19 points on Saturday to lead the Flying Dutch to a 74-58 win against Calvin at DeVos Fieldhouse. 

She shot 75 percent from 3-point range (3-4), grabbed five rebounds and dished three assists.

During the game, Schoonveld became the 17th Flying Dutch player to reach 1,000 career points. She has 1,012 points after 93 games.

On Wednesday, Schoonveld shared team-high scoring honors with 13 points during an 81-48 win at Alma. She also shared team-high rebounding honors with six.

Hope is off to a 4-0 start to the season. The Flying Dutch take a 33-game win streak into Wednesday’s game against Trine University at DeVos Fieldhouse — the second-longest in team history.
