The Hope College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams both rank among the nation’s elite in the first installment of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Rating Index for NCAA Division III.
The Flying Dutchmen sit second with 216.93 points, while the Flying Dutch are third
with 237.54 points. Both teams are led by head coach Kevin Cole.
The rating index is determined by teams’ national rankings in events.
After two meets, the Flying Dutchmen ranked in the Top 10 nationally in nine events,
while the Flying Dutch are in the Top 10 in six events.
Nick Hoffman of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) leads the Flying Dutchmen with the
nation’s fastest non-converted time in the mile of 4:09.38. Daniel Campbell (Brighton,
Michigan/Brighton) is third at 4:21.18.
Hoffman is third in two more events: the 800 meters at 1:56.45 and the 3,000 meters
at 8:36.46. Teammate Elijah Meder (Williamston, Michigan/Lansing Catholic) is fourth
in the 800 at 1:57.38. Campbell is ninth in the 3,000 meters at 8:52.59.
Hannah Kenny (Grand Haven, Michigan/Grand Haven) is ranked No. 1 in the 800 meters
at 2:23.90. Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois/John Hersey) is third at 2:26.97;
Cole fifth at 2:28.55; and Jessica Schamanek (Rochester Hills, Michigan/Stoney Creek)
sixth at 2:28.59.
Ana Tucker (Midland, Michigan/H.H. Dow) tops the nation in the 3,000 meters at 9:41.33.
Rebecca Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois/William Fremd) is fifth at 10:24.98; Anna
Mason (Zeeland, Michigan/Libertas Christian) sixth at 10:24.98; and Jacinda Cole (Holland,
Michigan/West Ottawa) 10th at 10:51.61.
Cole and Kenny are 2-3 in the mile at 5:11.08 and 5:13.79, respectively. Schamanek
is ninth at 5:37.43.
Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan/Mattawan) is third in the 400 meters at 51.01. Drew
Dow (Bridgman, Michigan/Bridgman) is fourth at 51.24.
Dow and Woolum lead off the third-ranked 4x400 relay with a time of 3:27.19. They
teamed with David McHugh (Whitehall, Michigan/Muskegon Reeths-Puffer) and Nathaniel
Trumble (Granger, Indiana/Trinity School at Greenlawn).
Lukas Bruxvoort (Holland, Michigan/Holland Christian) and Barry Bait (Granville, Ohio/Grandville)
are tied for third in the pole vault at 4.0 meters (13 feet, 1 ½ inches).
Grace Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana/Trinity School at Greenlawn) sits fourth in the
400 meters at 1:02.56 and eighth in the 200 meters at 27.07.
Moran, Kenny, Cole and Schamanek are sixth in the 4x400 relay at 4:18.48.
Bruxvoort is ninth in the triple jump at 12.52 meters (41-1) and 10th in the long
jump at 6.31 meters (20-8 ½).
Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas/Winston Churchill) is 10th in the high jump at
1.79 meters (5-10 ½).
Wartburg College (Iowa) leads the ratings index in both the men’s (266.75 points)
and women’s (390.94). John Carroll (Ohio) University is second in the women’s with
390.21 points.
