Hope College’s Tracy Westra has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Volleyball Specialty Player of the Week.

The senior from Clarendon Hills Illinois (Timothy Christian HS) is receiving the honor for the first time this season and the third time in her career. 

Westra helped the seventh-ranked Flying Dutch win their first three matches of the season last weekend. 

The setter and environmental engineering major 9.09 assists, 2.18 digs, and 1.45 assists per game against St. Olaf College (Minnesota), Aurora University (Illinois), and No. 18 College of St. Benedict (Minnesota) at the University of Chicago Gargoyle Classic.

With Westra’s direction, Hope hit .278 for the two-day tournament.

During a five-set victory against St. Benedict on Saturday, Westra totaled 11 kills with a team-high .714 hitting percentage. She also recorded 41 assists and 12 digs.
