The Hope College Department of Music will present “Combined Choirs: Lux Aeterna & Concert Spirituals” on Sat., April 25 at 3 p.m. in the concert hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.

The public is invited to this free concert.

The concert will feature the Hope College Chapel Choir, VERITAS, SPERA and College Chorus, bringing together the full choral program under the direction of Eric D. Reyes and Pamela Pierson. The program will include a selection of concert spirituals for choir and soloists, highlighting both student and faculty performers.

A highlight of the performance will be “My God is a Rock,” performed by the Chapel Choir with student soloist Samuel Machado. Faculty members Jennie Judd Reyes and Charsie Randolph Sawyer will also be featured in settings of “Amazing Grace,” “In dat Great Gittin’ Up Morning,” and “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.”

The combined choirs will perform “Lux Aeterna” by Morten Lauridsen, joined by Dr. Huw Lewis on the Casavant organ. Known for its warmth and beauty, the work has become one of the most beloved choral compositions of recent decades.

The concert will close with Elaine Hagenberg’s “O Love,” offered as a tribute to Hope’s graduating seniors.
