The Hope College Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland will continue its film series with the first film of the winter season, H is for Hawk, showing January 26–31 at 7 p.m.

Based on a best-selling memoir by Helen Macdonald, H is for Hawk is a biographical drama that follows a woman grappling with the sudden death of her father. Overwhelmed by grief, she withdraws from everyday life and turns to the ancient European tradition of falconry, taking on the challenge of training a wild goshawk named Mabel. As she teaches the bird to hunt and fly free, she is forced to confront her own emotional isolation and unresolved pain.

Tickets are $9 for regular admission, $7 for senior citizens and Hope faculty and staff, and free for Hope students. Tickets can be purchased at the Hope Events and Conference ticket office located downtown Holland in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. Eighth St.). The ticket office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be reached at 616-395-7890. Tickets are also available online at hope.edu/tickets.

Set against the natural world, the film explores themes of loss, endurance, and healing, tracing how an intense bond between human and animal becomes a path toward resilience. What begins as an act of survival gradually transforms into an intimate journey of self-discovery and renewal.

Reader’s World, the Holland downtown bookstore, is collaborating with the Knickerbocker Theatre and is stocking extra copies of this award-winning, New York Times bestseller, which is included in countless “top books” lists.

The Knickerbocker Film Series will continue with Rosemead, screening February 9–14. Additional films in the series are scheduled for March 2–7 and March 16–21, with titles to be announced.
