The Van Raalte Institute announced a new collection of essays titled “The Endurance of Hope,” which is a follow-up to a 2005 edition that examined Hope College’s historical journey in the “middle way.” Both books explore how Hope College has balanced its Christian identity and academic rigor, while navigating changing cultural and higher education landscapes over the last several decades.

Called by God, focused at Hope College, honed through Western Theological Seminary, and dispatched by the Reformed Church in America, Gordon (’56) and Evon (Southland, ’57) Laman served as missionaries to Japan for more than four decades.

This year’s 2026 Asian Heritage Month will be celebrated at Hope College by featuring Hope’s Theatre Department’s production of Mia Chung’s play, “You for Me for You,” on Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. and on Friday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the DeWitt Mainstage Theatre on Hope’s campus. The public is invited and admission is free to both performances, but tickets are required to attend as space is limited.
